I believe in human potential
I believe people are generally more capable than society gives them credit for, and we all lose when potential goes unfulfilled. A primary source of purpose in my life is helping other people—in this interview, I share more about my philosophy on human potential and how it shows up in my work.
self-actualization starts with
self-knowledge
My friends and teammates tell me I am assertive and passionate, and various personality tests tend to agree. Myers Briggs describes me as estj and the Enneagram Institute calls me an 8. Gallup says my top strengths are strategic, learner, achiever, command, and activator.
creative outlets are my jam
Art is a means of self-expression, a celebration of human progress, and a critical part of my way of being. I play both classical and jazz violin and have learned to apply the joy of improvising to countless other aspects of my life. I can most often be found holding a paintbrush, pencil, camera, or when friends get together to jam, my violin.
play is powerful
We spend too much time on screens and not enough time playing outside. I grew up in a household that did not believe in televisions, handheld devices, or participating in popular culture. Adventuring outside gives me energy, fortifies my sense of connectedness to my environment, and inspires me in my work on sustainability.
I love being female
I am often the only woman in the room and I take seriously my responsibility to lead from the front and give a voice to others who are not present. I do not expect, nor do I want, to be treated the same as my male counterparts. I strive to show up as authentically feminine and earn respect in my own right.
